A propos de cet article

Language: N/A. Brand New Book. The fierce naval battles fought in Norwegian waters during the spring of 1940 were recorded in documents that were once subject to restrictions under the Official Secrets Act. Fight for the Fjords includes the German account, written by the official historian within three years of the end of World War II, and the British report, which compiled previously unavailable Royal Navy records to produce one complete account. The combination of these two summaries forms a unique record. The foreword is by Admiral Lord Alan West, a former First Sea Lord and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office. The introduction expertly guides the reader through a level of detail that does not appear in post-war accounts, putting the summary in context. The introduction is by Dr R Porter, of the academic staff of Britannia Royal Naval College and Curator of the Britannia Museum and Mr M Pearce, a naval historian and Trustee of the Britannia Museum. From 2007-2010 he was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office, with responsibility for Security and created a life peer. Edited by Dr Richard Porter and Micheal Pearce. Richard is curator of the Britannia Museum. In 2005, he co-authored, with Dr Jane Harrold, Britannia Royal Naval College 1905-2005: One hundred Years of Officer Training at Dartmouth. For this history of the College they were awarded the Sir Robert Craven Trophy by the Britannia Naval Research Association, for their outstanding contribution to naval research. A revised, updated edition was published in 2007, retitled Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth: An Illustrated History, reprinted in 2012. Micheal Pearce served with the Ministry of Defence (Navy) for nearly 40 years. He traces his first spark of interest in naval matters to the age of four, when his father lifted him shoulder-high on the Isle of Wight ferry so that he could see HMS Vanguard, the last British battleship. His interest took off in his early teens when he started reading and buying naval history books - he has never stopped. At school he was often found tucked away in corners, avidly reading naval history. Fortunately, he was able to put his knowledge to effective use during his career, spent in various departments in Whitehall, Hampshire and at the Naval Base at Devonport. He was on the staff of Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth for 12 years.
