Unique. A collection of sad, sordid, or grimy stories from the Philadelphia justice system (supposedly) dated 1837/1838. Supposedly non-fiction, but reads like fiction. Someone has excerpted SEVEN ARTICLES written by "A Philadelphia Lawyer" (identity unknown to us) from Burton's Gentleman's Magazine and set them within a folded piece of antique marbled paper. Inevitably, the articles include writings by others. VERY GOOD condition. Contents are: 1. "The Murderess," Feb 1837, 2. "The Counterfeiter," March 1838 3. "The Pantheon," no date 4. "A Chapter on Aristocracy, March 1838 5. "The Unnatural Prosecution," May 1838 6. "The Will,' July 1838 7. "The Reprieve," September 1838 8. "The Fatal Shot," April 1839 (from Burton's Gentleman's Magazine) Each article numbered separately. Other contributions include: "The Coquette" by Richard Harrington, "I Met Thee at the festival" by The Stranger, "The Nun" by E.B., "Retrospections. To My Sister Isabel" by Thomas Hofland. Previous owner (Colleen Coats) signature upside down on last page. Fascinating booklet. #153C. N° de réf. du libraire 153C
