[4], li, [1], 277, [3], clviii pages + plate. Text chiefly in English (appendix chiefly in French). Coverage of slightly over 100 years of English history in all; focus on the year 1685 (with its various plots and conspiracies). Introductory "To the Reader" by Lord Holland; 4-part appendix at rear (with the correspondence between Louis XIV of France and M. Barillon, 1684-85, "on English affairs"); includes bibliographical references. BMC, volume 9, page 681, column 599 (with annotation "Edited by Lord Holland"). Bound in full tan polished calf, spine stamped and decorated gilt and blind with partly raised bands, covers double-ruled and decorated blind, edges and inner dentelles in gilt and blind, dark blue marbled endpapers, top edges stained dark brown, remaining edges flecked brown. Provenance: From the library of Seymour Redmayne Schofield, with his armorial bookplate on front attached endpaper and his holograph ink signature and inscription (dated 1941) on first preliminary leaf.
