Samuel Morland 1625-1695, was a diplomatist, mathematician and inventor. In 1655 Morland was sent by Oliver Cromwell on a mission to Italy to protest at actions taken against the Waldensians by the Duke of Savoy. During his residence in Geneva, Morland prepared minutes, and provured records, vouchers and attestations from which he might compile a correct history of the Waldenses. In 1656 Morland arrived at Whitehall, and shortly afterwards received the thanks of a select committee appointed by Cromwell to inquire into his proceedings. Two years later he published this work, 'The History of the Evangelical Churches of the Valleys of Piemont &c.' This volume, which was illustrated with sensational prints of the supposed sufferings of the Waldenses, 'operated like Fox's Book of Martyrs'.). N° de réf. du libraire 7652
