8vo, pp. 329, [1]. Modern marbled boards, dark red leather gilt label to spine. Paper age-toned, some spotting, first and last leaf guarded. Stamps of the Mercantile Library, Philadelphia, to title-page, first and last pages of text, and p.131. The scarce first American edition of one of Sinclair's later works; no copies are located by COPAC and 11 in Worldcat, all in eastern universities apart from one at Tulane and one in Hawaii.
