Features Index, and introduction by Paul J. Sachs, former professor emeritus of Fine Arts, Harvard University and original partner of famous law firm Goldman Sachs. Book includes original dust jacket. Jacket is frayed and chipped in corners, edges and spine. On exterior fore jacket flap, three small horizontal tears. Book clean and tight, appears barely used. Foxing along length of top edge. Slightly stained on inside hinge at front paste down. Signature and inscription on front end paper, in blue ink. Signature and inscription on front end page, reads: "For Robert Melville, with admiration and kindest regards, James Thrall Soby." Written in blue ink. Book is a collection of scholarly articles on modern art movements, techniques, and famous forgeries/misconceptions, culled from the original articles by Thrall published by The Saturday Review. Book is association copy of Robert Melville (1905 - 1986), a British art critic, journalist, art correspondent for New Statesmen magazine, and an early biographer of Pablo Picasso. This is my personal collection from which I am de-accessing most everything, including a vast amount of ephemera, art work (steel engravings, pouchoir, collotype), movie posters (of the 1940's - 50's) and a mass of important 19th c. bound periodicals (Oology to Archeology, Mathematics, Botany, Knitting), and 20th c. Art journals, Italian Fascist publications, etc., culled from Walter J. Johnson's liquidation, as well as a collection rare jazz records, including 100's of Boogie Woogie and BeBop '78s, And much more, just ask. I was previously established as The Book Merchants, the Philadelphia's Riverside Book Fair and 30th Street Station Book Fair.
