A propos de cet article

218 pages, plates, cloth, DJ, very good. From the DJ: ." This is one of the few books dealing with the Zeppelin war. Based on official documents, logbooks, correspondence and interviews with German Zeppelin commanders and British flyers who fought them, plus authorized and personal memoirs of those engaged in the defense of London and Great Britain against the Zeppelins, the book portrays the first air attacks ever made on a city from the viewpoints of attackers and defenders. In addition, it traces the history of these airships from their conception by Count von Zeppelin in 1847. The book depicts the mentality of those who plan the weapons of air attack; those who lead and execute attacks upon cities; and the ground-defenders and airplane-pilots who combat them. It also shows the Teutonic mentality that inspired the Zeppelin-raids, the fantastic courage of commanders and crews, their ghastly end in blood and flames, and the bravery of the pilots who finally shot them from the skies. The book also depicts the people of London, how they lived and laughed, and were scared; how many fled the city; how they coped with the world's first blackout, and the first menace from the air. Monsters of the Purple Twilight describes how spies, secret radio stations, and Intelligence webs on both sides played their part behind the scenes of the Zeppelin war.".
