Slight browning to edges; else a very clean item. 1 small octavo sheet, recto only (7 3/4" x 4 7/8"). Full-face view, in black ink, of the author of the "Pooh" books (smoking a cigarette, with right hand at lower left corner) by an unidentified illustrator (probably for the front cover of the Times (London) Literary Supplement); date is conjectural (but most likely from the period 1930-1940). With additional caption in pencil at lower margin (either by the artist or, more likely, by the editor); name in full (as "Alan Alexander Milne"). Well-enough preserved example. Milne (1882-1956), English author, noted for his children's classics ("When We Were Very Young", 1924; "Winnie-the-Pooh", 1926; "Now We Are Six", 1927; "The House at Pooh Corner", 1928); educated at Trinity College, Cambridge; member of the staff of "Punch"; also known for his light essays and comic short plays for adult readers.
