Titre : Opiđ bréf til síra Rögnvaldar Péturssonar : ...

Description :

Imprint/Publisher: Winnipeg : Maple Leaf Press, 1930. Descr. 56 pages; 16 cm. Former Tit. Comp.N. In Icelandic language. This is a biting satire aimed at a group of fellow Icelandic-Canadians who accepted Canadian government money to travel to Iceland in 1930 to attend the millenium celebrations of the founding of Icleland's parliament (Thingvaller). Thus about a major dispute within the Icelandic Canadian community in Canada and the U. S. The author was a well known Icelandic-Canadian writer (poet) and publisher and pioneer of the suffragette movement, of which his wife, Margrjet was a leader. They lived in Winnipeg and Hecla Island and Selkirk, all in Manitoba, Canada. Sigfus established a printing press in Selkirk in 1898, and later in Winnipeg, and with his wife published the feminist journal Freyja, the only woman suffrage paper in Canada. It was also a literary paper. Undirtitill á kápu: dularfull fyrirbrigði og fleira [on the cover, mysterious events and more]; Personal Subject: Rögnvaldur Pétursson 1877-1940. Stapled booklet; Very Good to VG+ in printed paper covers. Referenced in Hjartar, p. 41. At time of cataloguing, not on Amicus; only two listings at Gegnir. Rare. N° de réf. du libraire 32494
