Part of the publisher's undated "Arlington Edition," this edition, perhaps the first hardcover edition, uses the plates of 1887 M. J. Ivers paperbound edition. A very popular mystery novel set in Paris featuring the French detective Piédouche published in French as LE COUP D'OEIL DE M. PIÉDOUCHE. There were many editions in English under various titles: THE DETECTIVE'S EYE, PIÉDOUCHE, A FRENCH DETECTIVE, etc. The prolific, once popular but now forgotten roman-feuilletoniste Fortuné Du Boisgobey (1821-1891), published a large quantity of crime fiction.
