Stamp of Food, Tobacco, Agricultural and Allied Workers Union of America Local 80 C.I.O. to both pastedowns and free endpapers, otherwise clean and unmarked. Mylar-protected, unprice-clipped dust jacket is mildly rubbed w/ chipping to extremities incl. 1" chunk missing to tail of spine. Scarce in jacket. Sanford's most famous novel about a small town NY racist who torments the non-white residents and finally receives his comeuppance. The Communist Party, of which Sanford was a member, believed it too anti-social and bleak, but writers, such as William Carlos Williams, praised its brutal honesty. Description de la librairie : I, the Andalusia Bookman, have a stock of over 100,000 covering a wide range of items specializing in 19th and 18th c. illustrated books, chromolithos, Philadelphiana, rare anthropology, early hermeneutics, Natural history, first editions and signed items, Beat lit, '60's material, unusual occult, erotica and esoterica. This is my personal collection from which I am de-accessing most everything, including a vast amount of ephemera, art work (steel engravings, pouchoir, collotype), movie posters (of the 1940's - 50's) and a mass of important 19th c. bound periodicals (Oology to Archeology, Mathematics, Botany, Knitting), and 20th c. Art journals, Italian Fascist publications, etc., culled from Walter J. Johnson's liquidation, as well as a collection rare jazz records, including 100's of Boogie Woogie and BeBop '78s, And much more, just ask.
