4to. Bound in contemporary full vellum, with gilt-stamped titles to spines. First volume bears an engraved frontispiece of Muratori, as well as a full-page engraved dedicatory plate of Niccola Fraggianni. Engraved fold-out map of South America in very good condition. Several additional engraved plates depicting ancient scripts and inscriptions. Sewn-in marker ribbon in each volume. Foxing throughout, heavy in places. Rear hinge of one volume somewhat cracked; upper hinge of another volume showing minor cracking near tail. Light wear to bindings. Good overall condition. Luigi Antonio Muratori [Ludovico Muratori] was one of the leading scholars of his day, particularly in the study of history. He remains known for his ground-breaking and learned writings on the history of Italy, as well as his discovery and publication of the 'Muratorian Canon', the earliest known list of New Testament books.
