Titre : Robin Hood Flour Cook Book / [recipes by Mrs...

Éditeur : Robin Hood Mills, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan

Edition : First Edition.

Description :

Elizabeth Driver, in Culinary Landmarks, S16.1 (pp 998-999) dates this legendary cookbook at about 1915. She defines it as a Saskatchewan publication because the publisher's headquarters was then located in Moose Jaw. DESCRIPTION: 80 p.; many colour illusrations, 26.5 x 19.0 cm. Image on front card cover depicts the legendary Robin Hood about to shoot an arrow. Printed by Bulman Brothers in Winnipeg. This is the first of several Robin Hood cookbooks published in the period up to 1950. The first of these cookbooks, noted here, is acclaimed for its lavish colour illustrations. The Forward notes the " seven beautiful three-colour process plates showing the Robin Hood products in their natural color. This is the first time this expensive process has been used in any cook book in Canada. There are in addition about 40 illustrations, also in three colors, showing scenes from the life of Robin Hood. One of the leading American artists, Mr. Moen, has been engaged . . . drawing this beautiful series of illustrations". Many of these drawings are signed with this artist's monogram, 'LM'. However the striking and large image of Robin Hood on the front cover is by the Canadian artist Arthur Hider (see p. 997 on this latter point). There are varient editions of this book distinguished by the typesetting on p. 6, according to Driver. Thee are no American editions of this book, says Driver. Driver found about nine library/archival locations in Canada which hold this book. A sought-after and extremely hard book to find in nice condition. The copy offered here has light to heavy soil to covers, covers chipped and showing one closed tear about 1/3 the length of the front cover, small abrasions to both covers, none of the above affecting text. About 1/4 of ffep [blank] missing, light age toning to margins of pages but all the striking illustrations remain intact and in nice condition. Mail-in coupons on last page also intact. Hand writen recipes on seperate pieces of paper laid in. N° de réf. du libraire 39346
