With illustrated dustwrapper. 156pp. With b/w illustrations and photographs. In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (dw; handling marks. Not price clipped). Author’s signature (MD) to front endpaper. Else a clean and tight copy. In 1860 the Government removed the prohibition on imported silk goods leading to a collapse in the Coventry silk weaving trade. Thomas Stevens adapted his looms to produce small multi coloured silk pictures of infinite variety. His bookmarkers were an instant success and were followed by greetings cards, sashes and badges.
