Titre : VIETNAM: AND BABIES TOO? AND BABIES TOO.
Éditeur : Artworkers Coalition, Museum of Modern Art
Etat du livre : Fragile paper
Type de livre : Poster
The rare poster by the Artworkers Coalition, initially agreed by Moma’s executive staff association, then banned by the President of the board of Trustees of the museum, and printed by AWC. Distributed in large numbers, 50,000 according to Lucy Lippard’s blow by blow account in "The Art Workers Coalition: Not a History." Strangely only 2 or 3 have come to light since the 1980s, the fragility of the thin paper, not to mention the fugitive pinks and reds and greens in the printing inks, contributing to rapid disappearance. The cheaply printed silkscreen image of the massacre which was shown worldwide at the time after Lt. Calley’s conviction (overturned on appeal, leading finally to some months "house arrest", and even then the only prosecuted instance amongst the literally hundreds of massacres by Americans in Vietnam, a "conflict" in which millions (not thousands) were killed by American chemical and biological (and conventional) warfare, apart from the torture, murder, executions, etc. and in spite of the former classed without exception by the United Nations and all signatories to the International Criminal Court as war crimes and crimes against humanity. Those killed were mainly civilians; how many men, how many women, another rubric. The effects of Napalm (Dow corporation’s creation of shareholder value) are, half a century later, ongoing, as are the effects of such and equally of cluster bombs, smart bombs, no less than the ever-present land mine explosives, causing deaths weekly still. Ones blood does boil when the United States takes the high ground as if that never happened, doesn’t continue to occur, under successive Democratic and Republican administrations. Yet the poster is true ephemera, aesthetics and politics coagulated, or vice versa, a fundamental political poster of the 1960s. N° de réf. du libraire 298
