Description :

Slight wear to extremities (chiefly to lower edges and corners); slight rubbing to covers (boards); previous owner's ink annotations and markings (chiefly on endpapers and preliminaries); slight wear to few leaves (chiefly short tears and/or creases, chiefly to plates); few preliminary leaves lacking (chiefly in volume 1); slight internal browning and/or foxing (chiefly to edges, endpapers and preliminaries). [ca. 425] pages per volume + plates. Text in French. Original work of the noted French explorer, passed off as a translation from a member of the Oneida tribe's narrative. Notable for the various dialogues between members of various tribal leaders with French voyageurs throughout, plus the engraved folding maps, and supplementary information in Crevecoeur's copious notes. Howes USIANA C-884 ("aa"). The 3 text volumes (lacking the Atlas); bound uniformly in early 20th century half brown calf over dark brown and red marbled boards, giltstamped and decorated spines with giltstamped dark red and black morocco spine labels, plain endpapers, all edges trimmed and stained yellow (latter somewhat faded). Beautifully bound copy (with noted minor flaws) of a very rarely encountered and highly desirable historical set. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. N° de réf. du libraire L058240
