Description :

Xxii, 696 pages, cloth, DJ, very good in dust jacket. Fourth printing. From the publishers: More exciting than any spy thriller, here at last is the whole story of German espionage in the United States and Great Britain before and during World War II. At the end of the war the U. S. Forces captured the German State Archives. Buried and unopened in this overwhelming mass of documents was a metal footlocker containing on microfilm the secret records of the Abwehr organizations conducting these operations. Inscribed therein was every name - real and cover - of every agent, every mark spent, every report received, every order given. Ladislas Farago, a lifelong student of espionage and an important figure in U. S. Naval Intelligence in World War II, stumbled across this treasure trove, which had remained untouched in a dark loft of the National Archives for over twenty years. Only he had the background to understand its historical significance. With these revelations as a base he spent the next four years interviewing surviving intelligence operators on both sides, supplementing, confirming, and correcting the disclosures these supposedly destroyed documents contained. ; 696 pages.
