Ex-libris plate stuck to front pastedown. Pages are noticeably tanned with minor foxing throughout. Heavier tanning to towards start and end of the book. Pencil mark to front free endpaper. Cracking to gutters with exposed netting in few places. Plates are moderately tanned with some foxing. Binding is shaky. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surface. Small scratches and stain to both boards. Moderate sunning to spine with visible crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering is darkened.

Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Previous owner's inscription to front free end-paper. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have heavy edge-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Cloth has heavy damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is darkened. Unclipped jacket has heavy edge-wear with some areas of loss, heavy tears, chips and creasing. Heavy damp staining.

Very minor spotting to some leaves. In the original cloth, clean and tight. Overall a very nice copy of this title.

This is volume XI in 'The Lonsdale Library' of Sports and Pastimes, founded by The Earl of Lonsdale, and is devoted to boxing. The Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic described the work as: 'The best existing story of boxing. It is thoroughly trustworthy & should for a long time remain a standard guide to the noble art. An admirable account of the history of boxing & a lucid exposition of modern methods. The abundant illustrations are of great practical value.' The book is bound in the original tan cloth covered boards with a tan buckram spine and gold titling on the spine. There is a gold stamped Lonsdale emblem on the front board. The book is in very good + condition and the contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with some shelf wear and light soiling and the spine is slightly darkened. Small pieces are missing from the corner tips and bottom of the spine and some pieces of up to about 1/4" are missing from the top of the spine. Some small tears on the corner tips and around the top of the spine have been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover. PLEASE NOTE: Heavyish book so a little extra may be needed for shipping to non-UK customers.
