Soft Covers. Etat : VG+. No Jacket. Ship/Aircraft Profiles (illustrateur). 1st. The introduction states the book was published "in an attempt to provide a comprehensive list of the various named craft to have served in the Royal Australian Navy and the various colonial naval forces." In addition, merchant vessels manned by naval personnel, projected ships and craft operated by other RAN organisations are included. Ships used for specific tasks on navel service have been added where sufficient information is available. The main body of the book is devoted to ships and shore establishments, arranged alphabetically, with other sections covering ship hull numbers/letters, naval aircraft, abbreviations and sources. In the alphabetical listings the opening page for each letter carries a line profile drawing of a ship with the name beginning with that letter (For instance: A has three ship profiles, D one, with a deck plan, M three profiles and S two profiles). Other profiles appear at the front of the book and some are used at listing ends. Profiles of six aircraft types used by the RAN are shown in that section, which lists all aircraft used. Ship listings include name, time of service, builder, major dimensions, tonnage and speed, class and type, hull numbers, armament and fate/disposal. For shore establishments the name or number and location are given. This impressive publication is undoubtedly the most extensive, authoratative and comprehensive listing of the many ships and shore establishments serving Australia's naval interests from its colonial days through two world wars, several others since, with some ships in service at time of publication on duty into the new millenium. A publication of which Navy Public Affairs can be justly proud. First edition of 1996, unpaginated but the book when firmly closed measures just over 2cm thick from front cover to rear, ship and aircraft profiles throughout. Colour art card covers are VG+ with front corner tips lightly bumped, circular impressed stamp of former owner lower front corner on half-title, no inscriptions and text block otherwise NF, This large book, 28cm by 20cm, weighing 1.1kgs unpacked, would require additional postage, particularly for overseas delivery.
