This is a VG hardcover first edition copy in 3/4 brown leather binding, 5 rib spine, marbled boards, marbled end papers, marbled edges. 213 pages with index. With the bookplate of Admiral of the Fleet Sir James Elphinstone Erskine KCB, DL, JP. Erskine joined the Royal Navy in 1852. He was given command of the corvette HMS Boadicea in 1878. He became Private Secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty in 1880 and went on to be Commodore on the Australia Station in 1882. He became Junior Naval Lord in 1886. In 1888 he was given command of the Coast of Ireland and in 1895 he became Commander-in-Chief, North America and West Indies Station. Promoted admiral in 1897, he became First and Principal Naval Aide-de-Camp to the King in April 1901[4] and retired in 1908. Tenison-Woods (1832-1889), was a Catholic priest, educationist and scientist. He sailed for Van Diemen's Land in 1854. In This work was designed to make available a popular account of the findings of the 1880 Royal Commission on the Fisheries of New South Wales. William III of the Netherlands gave Tenison-Woods a gold medal for this book. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
