[Australia or U.S.A. : photographer unidentified, between 1875 and 1880].Sixth plate tintype photograph with hand colouring, 102 x 62 mm; a few surface scratches, else in good condition. The seated woman is holding a book in her left hand, the cover title of which is legible: it readsThe Illustrated Aesop's Fables for Schoolchildren. Was she a teacher? The adolescent girl (presumably her daughter) wears a choker with a crucifix. The cheeks of both sitters have delicate rose tinting. The tintype, or ferrotype, was a very cheap (but too often nasty) photographic process which became popular inNorth America during the Civil War period. Itmet with fairly limited success in Australia from the early 1870s to around 1900, but never seriously challenged the universal appeal of the albumen print carte de visite.

Album. Etat : Very good +. One small photograph album, in green cloth, measuring about 5" x 3", containing fourteen silver print photographs, eight of which measure about 3.5" x 2.75", and six of which measure 2.5" x 1.75". A few nicks to the first image, and the glue used to attach them to the paper has caused the images to curl, though not affecting the overall condition or quality of the prints. Overall, very good or better. The images mostly depict a group of six women in full Suffragette-era attire, with long skirts and hats, posing somewhat unceremoniously for a few photographs, our personal favorite being in full Niagara Falls rainwear, which covers everything but the middle of their faces. The presence of a streetcar, a train of horses, but no automobiles, leads us to place this album conservatively at about 1910, though it could be as early as the mid-1890s, as Niagara Falls's streetcar system began in the 1880s. Though a small grouping, a nice blend of scenic photos, street scenes, and close-up shots of some pre-19th Amendment American women who had the day (or perhaps the weekend?) to themselves.

A pristine, archival digital black-and-white print of the soprano/conductor/performance artist, signed by Barbara Hannigan. Shows the brilliant and ground-breaking Grammy-Award-winning artist in a closeup portrait, revealing her ethereally beautiful face and bare shoulders. Print size is 10.5 X 8.5 inches (horizontal portrait). Eminently suitable for framing. Encased in its own protective plastic sheet with brown cardboard backing. Without DJ, as issued. There is no ISBN. The print is now rare. Presents "Portrait of Barbara Hannigan". Since the untimely demise of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, THE soprano and performance artist of modern and contemporary music to reckon with, worship, and admire. "One of the most complete musicians before the public. A beautiful voice, technical assurance, and sensitivity to text have enabled her to conquer a wide range of repertoire, from the Baroque through the Avant-Garde. Her singing and word-painting are lovely" (James S. Eisenberg). It would be a shame if she remained a cult figure instead of the indispensable voice of Classical music for our time that she derserves to be. An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Barbara Hannigan collectors. This print is very boldly and beautifully signed in blue pen-marker in front by Barbara Hannigan. It is signed directly on the print itself, not on a tipped-in page. It is the single most beautiful portrait of the soprano/artist we have ever seen. This print is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the print available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Digital prints are archival and typically, will last longer than analog prints. They do not fade with time. At the same time, it is also undeniable (and must be stated here for the sake of full disclosure) that analog prints are desirable because they are hand-made, and are no longer being produced as such by almost all contemporary photographers. A rare signed print thus. One of the greatest soprano/artists of our time. A fine print. Signed by Author.

Soft cover. Etat : As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1 pages. Published in 1986. Rare Kurt Deitrick and male erotic photography collectible item. An original vintage color photographic print of an unidentified blond athlete, as photographed by Kurt Deitrick. It is one of Deitrick's most (inadvertently) inspired male nudes ever. The print is considerably larger, at 5 X 7 inches, and is encased in a protective plastic sheet. It shows the handsome, hirsute yet clean-cut model in one of Deitrick's single most beautiful images. It is a conventional nude pose, except for one brilliant touch: His right foot is raised and his white sock is visible. It is unconscious on the part of the photographer that a male nude which shows a sock (just one, not the pair) alludes to two erotic elements: The single-letter difference between "sock" and "cock" and the almost-identical sound of "sock" and "suck". All three words have multiple meanings, the sexual ones being slang. This is not a digital print or a later, contemporary print but was printed directly from the original negatives in the 1980's, at the time of first publication. Beautifully developed, with great clarity and warm tones, on Kodak Photographic Paper. This is the genuine article, an absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, item for Kurt Deitrick and male erotic art photography collectors. This original vintage color photographic print is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the print available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare copy thus. Soft cover. Etat : Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1 pages. Published in 1957. Rare male erotic photography collectible item. A framed vintage single-weight silver-gelatin photographic print of an unidentified nude equestrian/athlete. The print is considerably larger, at 5 X 7 inches. Framed in solid wood, the framed size is 8 X 8 inches. Shows a lean and handsome model in one of the most beautiful male nude images we have ever seen. It is a conventional nude pose in the great outdoors, except for two memorable elements: The model is well-endowed, impressively so. Its unusual length is something that no popular modern enhancement or artificial prosthetics could possibly replicate. He is shown partially dressed in a cowboy outfit and more important, there is a real, not a fake, horse behind him. Judging from the photographic paper used, it was printed directly from the original negative circa 1957. Beautifully reproduced, the vintage print has not faded at all and is in near-perfect condition. This is not a digital print or a later, contemporary print. Press photo (album print), 118x80mm approx, faded with wear to the top edge, faded ink arrows pointing at the figure, verso containing a large description in black fountain pen ink, English/[Armenian?] wear to top edge, contemporary red stamp ÔLiterary Digest,Õ n.p but [Iran/Turkey], n.d. [c.1905-10]. Original photograph portrait of Mehmet Ali Khan, Persian charg dÕaffaires in Turkey and editor of a Revolutionary paper in Tabriz [Mufjta hia?]. Tabriz was a focal point for the constitutionalists during the Persian revolution. The decentralised governmental structure of Persian society meant that cities ran as separate jurisdictions, with city committees adjudicating on any grievances of the populace. Whilst it wasnÕt allowed by law, the Tabriz committee used a period of increased disorder in 1906-7 to justify forming an armed militia. The success and replication of this militia system across other cities in Iran, as discussed by Sohrabi ÔÉthe highly visible rituals and military drills of provincial committees had greatly worried the old regime, and they complained about it to the assemblyÕ (Sohrabi, 1995). These city militias further destabilised the centralised power structure of the monarch. After refusing to submit to the rule of Tehran following the bombardment of the parliament, the constitutional forces of Tabriz were besieged for eleven months by the forces of Mohammad Ali Shah in 1908-09. The siege was eventually lifted by Russian support and the incident was a key moment in the eventual overthrow of the Shah and re-application of the Persian constitution. English/Armenian. Photo.

Some spotting to the edges of the photograph, but still a clear image, on a clean mount - overall very good. The image depicts an adult woman with clearly deformed hands and arms, and possibly without legs. There is a large hand-cranked metal device connected to a series of ropes, which are tied to parts of the mattress. The device must have served the purpose of moving the mattress so that she could sit up or lay down. An interesting cabinet photograph with interesting medical and technology content.

Although residing primarily in Pittsburgh, he also used the somewhat worse-for-wear Belmont Plantation near Leesburg, Virginia as a summer home. His daughter, Anna Louise Rogers (nee Ferguson), did much to restore its elegance. Her daughter, Nancy Graham Rogers, graduated from Agnes Scott College and became a prominent virologist who helped develop a typhus vaccine during World War Two. The Belmont mansion house was built in 1799 by Ludwell Lee, the son Richard Henry Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today, it is the center of an e golf course community. Belmont Country Club. The opaltype process, invented in the 1850s, essentially used negatives to expose glass plates that had been sensitized with collodion and silver gelatin like sheets of photographic paper. The process resulted in images that were similar in appearance to ivory miniatures. A nice collection with a relatively scarce opalotype photograph. A collection of papers related to Nancy Graham Rogers is maintained by the Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg, Virginia.

Etat : Very good. Square octavo scrapbook with blank page mounts. Most images loosely mounted, while perhaps 25 are laid-in at rear (about 97 images total). The images are albumen photographic prints, most of which are in fine condition, and labeled on rear or below the images where mounted. Generally, most prints are in fine condition, though many of those laid-in at rear are curled and creased. Most are wuite nicely composed, and whoever took them had a decent command of composition, and knew how to use the equipment. There is an image of a New York City fire engine (elaborate brass, etc.), pulled by horses. The shot taken on a busy, bright day on Broadway shows plenty of pedestrians, horses, and carriages, and not a whiff of an automobile. This album dates from no later than 1890, and is likely closer to the mid-1870s.

Albumen carte-de-visite, measuring 98 by 59mm. A few tiny dark stains to the photograph, appears to be mounted on later card, modern pencil caption to verso. N.p., n.d., but [Istanbul, A scarce carte-de-visite of Elaru Mevhibe Kadin (1835-1936), the First Consort (BasKadin) of Sultan Murad V. Mevhibe was born in Tbilisi, Georgia and presented to the Ottoman court when still a girl. She grew up among the family of Sultan Abdulmejid I, and at the age of twenty-two married his son Murad, then seventeen. Murad later became Sultan in 1876, but only for a short while, as his poor mental health led to his deposition and imprisonment in the Ciragan Palace. Thus Mevhibe was imprisoned with him and held the position of BasKadin for the shortest term in Ottoman history, just ninety-three days. Despite this loss she remained well-regarded in the court and took responsibility for her and Murad's contact with the outside world. Alongside many remarkable personal qualities, she showed unyielding loyalty to her husband, and is even said to have sewn him items of clothing. After Murad's passing in 1904 she lived a quiet life, primarily in Sisli, from which she watched the passing of the Empire from her garden. Even when the last members of the ruling family were exiled she, being a childless consort, was allowed to stay in Istanbul, living to a hundred and becoming the longest-lived member of the Ottoman dynasty.
