HARDCOVER. nd (c1960). First edition. A very good ex-library copy with age tanning to the edges, the expected library stamps and a small piece cut away from the top corner of the front free endpaper. The contents are fine and unmarked. The d/w is unclipped and fair with some soiling, tanning and general wear. Now in a protective cover. Scans available if required.
Hardcover. Etat : Fair. Limited Edition. limited edition, this copy numbered 291, 162pp., photographs, blue paper covers. About half of the pages are unbound, having come loose from their staples. Other than a little browning / foxing here and there, the contents are in good order. The spine is a bit worn with a two staple holes and the front cover is detached; otherwise the covers are good. A detailed biography and discography of one of the most important figures in early American jazz. Oliver was the mentor and teacher of Louis Armstrong. This copy is numbered 291, but it is unclear how many appeared in this edition - which I believe is the trade paperback edition of this title.

This is a manuscript copy of Allen and Rust's excellent look at the life, work, and recordings of the great jazz cornet player, bandleader, and composer. 162 mimeographed pages in a black binder. Very good copy with minor wear. Label attached to spine of binder with some loss but title and authors' names intact. Very scarce.
