Rubbed and bumped, cloth to spine sunned and frayed to head and foot. Foxing to closed edges and endpapers, gutters partially cracked, the odd childrens crayon scribble, else pp clean and bright. Backhouse. 1/4 dark red coloured cloth covered backstrip. 3/4 colour illustrated front board with purple and black coloured titles, plain blue coloured back coloured board. Lewis Carrolls' immortal Alice. Softening and rubbing of the backstrip edges, rubbing of the book edges with the corners bumped and the underlying boards visible. Light age toning and foxing of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. Offset tanning and foxing to the end pages with a small hole to the top right-hand corner of the free front end page with erasure marks also visible. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Undeated edition, but neat gift dedication on front endpaper dated November 1952. Dustwrapper worn at edges and enclosed in a protective sleeve. Light wear to edges of covers. Front cover illustration clean and bright. A little faint foxing on prelims, contents not affected. Pages slightly tanned.

Hard back binding in publisher's original scarlet cloth covers, black lettering to the spine and the upper panel. 4to. 10½'' x 8¼'' 128 pp. 4 super single-sided full-page colour plates, many monochrome illustrations throughout. End papers are missing. Very Good condition book, in Very Good condition price clipped dust wrapper with short tears to the edges of the lower cover, small chips to the tips and corners, scarce dust wrapper. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection, this protects and prolongs the life of the paper, it is not adhered to the book or to the dust wrapper. Boards in d.j. G.W. Backhouse (illustrateur). Quarto, pictorial red cloth backedboards, dustjacket, 8 colour plates, b&w illus (including some full page) by G.W. Backhouse, pp 128, small marks to edges of several pages not affecting text. Dustjacket has been previously repaired on the reverse side. some wear and small closed tear bottom edge. Very good condition in like d.j. Alice in Wonderland, illustrated by Geoffrey William Backhouse (1903-1978). This particular edition has eight colour plates (the Collins Backhouse editions often only had four), and over 80 illustrations in total.

Pictorial papered boards are quite rubbed and bumped at edges. Rubbing to boards has caused white marks to front and back. Chipping and fading to spine. Binding firm, no inscriptions. A little corner creasing and minor foxing. Last page of text is quite tanned/foxed. 128 pages, over 70 b&w illustrations throughout the text. 8 Full page colour plates in good condition except the 2nd plate is torn in margin. Desirable copy as later editions of this book only contain 4 colour plates.

Some rubbing, light soil, and edge-chipping to dust jacket (mainly at head and foot of spine + upper right corner). Gift presentation (undated) on free front endpaper by previous owner. Slight crinkling to upper right corner of several consecutive pages. Clean text and immaculate unfoxed plates.

Colour pictorial dw, Alice in court procession with King & Queen + mauve & black lettering on front, not clipped. Original white eps. Covers : slight shelf knock top of spine else very clean & unrubbed with sharp corners. Dw : few small closed tears along top edge else clean & complete. Contents : very slight occasional fox spots else very clean & tight. Bright attractive copy in scuffed dw. F-/VG.
