Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. First Edition. Introduction by editors, organisation of the Edition, Translators' Introduction, acknowledgements, short biographies of persons mentioned in the text, glossary of German terms and abbreviations and index. Red coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper (which looks dirty, but is an actual fact a facsimile of original document) with black and red coloured titles to the front panel and red and black coloured titles to the back strip. Quoting from the rear panel blurb " . In his private letters Heinrich Himmler shows himself to be a perpetrator out of deep conviction . In no way did he separate his activity as the head of the SS, responsible for carrying out the extermination policies, from his private life, as though he ever had to conceal the fact of mass murder. He did not boast about this to his wife, but rather considered mass murder a necessary duty that was placed on the from above . These letters should allow the reader to discern this distortion of normality: violence plug-in innocuousness, the icy coldness that goes hand-in-hand with a specious solicitude . In these letters we see expressed the single-mindedness of a German couple who believe that they were participating in "great times," a couple incapable of recognising that these were, in fact, great crimes." Translated by Thomas S. Hansen and Abby J. Hansen. A little rubbing of the book edges and age toning of the text block edges and pages. Some creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with a small tear to the top top edge of the front panel. Minor rubbing of the panels. Full number line. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardback. Etat : As New. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. 344 pages. At the end of World War II, it was assumed that the letters of Heinrich Himmler were lost. Yet sixty years after Him mler's capture by British troops and subsequent suicide, the lett ers mysteriously turned up in Tel Aviv and, in early 2014, excerp ts were published for the first time by the Israeli newspaper Yed iot Aharonot providing a rare, if jarring, glimpse into the famil y life of one of Hitler's top lieutenants while he was busy organ izing the mass extermination of the Jews. It was generally held t hat Himmler, once appointed head of the SS, blended seamlessly in to the Nazi hierarchy. The image that emerges, however, is more s ubtle. Himmler is seen here as a man whose observations can often be characterized by their unpleasant banality; a man whose obses sion with family life ran alongside a brutal detachment from all things human, a serial killer who oversaw the persecution and ext ermination of all Jews and other non-Aryans, and those opposed to the regime. His letters remove any doubt that he was the archite ct of the Final Solution, and a man who was much closer to Hitler than many historians previously thought. The letters in this edi tion were arranged by Katrin Himmler, the great-niece of Heinrich and Marga Himmler, and Michael Wildt, a renowned expert on the N azi regime, who also provide historical context to the letters an d their author. The entire work was translated by Thomas S. Hanse n and Abby J. Hansen.

First edition hard back binding in publisher's original scarlet covers, silver title and author lettering to the spine. 8vo. 9½'' x 6¼''. After Himmler's suicide in 1945, his letters were believed lost. Then, in 2014, they were discovered in Tel Aviv and authenticated by historians. Edited by his great niece, they present a chilling glimpse into the mind of a mass murderer. Alongside banal family details and fanatical devotion to the Nazi cause, they reveal him to have been much closer to Hitler than previously thought, and remove any doubt that he was the architect of the Final Solution. Contains [x] 344 printed pages of text, unused new book. Fine condition book in Fine condition dust wrapper, not price clipped. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection.
