Hinton was considered the "Dean of bas players" and experienced the jazz world firsthand for more than five decades. He was a member of Cab Calloway's orchestra for sixteen years. He played with most of the jhazz greats of this century including Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billy Holiday and several other of the jazz greats. `A near fine copy bound in red cloth, spine lettering black, in a very good pictorial dust jacket with one small closed tear and chip to rear panel.

Regarded as the ÔDean of American jazz bass players, Milt Hinton (1910 - 2000) was also renowned for his skills as a photographer, documenting the American jazz scene throughout his career, which included being a regular in the Cab Calloway Orchestra, as a successful studio musician, and touring with Louis Armstrong. This book is an intimate portrait of that world, compiling 200 moments captured as only an insider and a participant could.

Examples of these photos are featured throughout the book; in wonderful complement to the text of Milt Hinton and David Berger. This copy nicely inscribed by Milt Hinton to Alan Pomerance. Under the inscription, Hinton has added a drawing of a bass, and the year ( '88 ). The first edition, inscribed by legendary jazz bassist Milt ( Judge) Hinton. The Judge passed away at the edge of 90 in the year 2,000. Signed by Author(s).

Laid in is a 16 line typed letter from Milton J Hinton Scholarship Fund thanking the Schaubs for their contribution and here presenting them with this special limuted edition. ".you should note that the slipcase was designed to accomodate the book without its wrap around jacket. (This is common in special edition collectors' volumes.) However we thought you would want to have the jacket so we included one with your book". Milt Hinton has signed the unattributed letter.
