No Binding. Etat : Very Good. , (illustrateur). 1st Edition. Marcus Ward and Co. printed Valentine card showing a man on his knees offering a woman a rose. On verso is neatly written lightly in pencil is the date 1895. Marcus Ward used a variety of artists for his books, this one is not signed. A light bend in top right corner, a small black spot in image, otherwise in excellent condition. Sizes are 13 x 17 cm (5 x 6.75 inches).

It is dated 26 July, 1864 Interestingly on the verso is the date again and a note which reads: "Marcus Ward & Co. Bills for sale of growing crop on James Archer's Farm Legmore.".

Etat : Good. Lot of 6 Pretty Victorian Lithographic Booklets, the Art Lithographic Publishing Company, New York; Artistic Lithographic Company, London; Marcus Ward & Co. Ltd., Belfast and New York; Henry Altemus Company, Philadelphia; Raphael Tuck & Sons, London, Paris, and New York, circa 1880s-1890s, various sizes. Lot of 6 beautifully illustrated Victorian-era lithographic booklets. Four of them - The Ascension to Glory by E. M. Sackett, Prince of Peace by Dora Ross, Christmas Day by the Rev. John Keble, and Sorrow and Old Friends by W. A. Fraser - have religious themes. Of the other two, Golden Buttercups by Helen Marion Burnside contains charming verse about buttercups in spring, and the other is Charms for All Seasons, a pretty little calendar with color lithographs and short poetry verses accompanying each month. In good condition overall.

Gilt-edged card, 96 x 128 mm, chromolithographic illustration, with the word 'Christmas' and border in gold; imprint of 'Marcus Ward & Co., Limited' to lower margin recto; addressed to 'Mr. & Mrs. Thomson' from 'Mr. & Mrs. McCardel'; verso blank; in very good condition. From an Australian photograph album associated with the Thomson and Condon families of Melbourne. Although the card was printed in Ireland, it was probably purchased in Melbourne and sent locally. 'In the 1860s Marcus Ward & Co began mass-producing calendars andgreeting cards. Initially they printed cards for other publishers such as Charles Goodall & Son and Charles Bennett. By the late 1860s they began printing greeting cards under their own name. This venture turned out to be very successful, the company engagingThomas Craneasartistic directorand talented artists such asKate GreenawayandWalter Craneas illustrators. In the early years of card production they marked the reverse with their trademark. In later years the company name was printed on the front side of their greeting cards.' (Wiki.).
