All six volumes of Thomas Pinney's "The Letters of Rudyard Kipling".These volumes present Kipling's annotated letters for the first time, revealing Kipling with a fullness and immediacy of detail unmatched by any other source. Volumes 1 and 2 present the first half of Kipling's life, showing the remarkable transformation of the young schoolboy into the seasoned Indian journalist and then famous writer the most dazzling literary success of the 1890s. Volume 3 looks at the decade in which Kipling published "Kim", "Just So Stories", "The Five Nations" and other major works, his involvement in politics and move to South Africa and the growing record of his honours (including the Nobel Prize). Volume 4 explores Kipling's years as war correspondent and propagandist, and the death of his only son in 1915. Volume 5 focuses on Kipling's life through the post-war decade of the 1920s, while Volume 6 covers the last five years of Kipling's life and includes a full index to all six volumes of the edition. All dust jackets are present and unclipped. Volumes 1 & 2 are in very good condition with light wear and slight soiling to the top edges. The dust jackets have some slight creasing. Volumes 3, 4, 5 & 6 are all in near fine condition in near fine dust jackets. £ of the volumes have had some pencil marking but this has now been erased. PLEASE NOTE: Heavy set so extra will be needed for shipping to non-UK customers.
