Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. pp: 216. Sinclair led an interesting life. This book is his account of a trip by car he took in 1926 to some difficult, and contentious parts of the Middle East. He travelled under an assumed name, as during The First World War, he was working for British Military Intelligence under his real name of Teague-Jones. And, for years after he lived under his assumed name of Sinclair. It was not until just before his death that his travelogue was published. No doubt, he was still working for Military Intelligence during his travels. Was he spying? This is a near fine copy of the first edition in a dust jacket with light sunning on the spine.

SYNOPSIS: Seventy years ago, to escape the vengeance of the Bolshevik death squads, a British intelligence officer, Captain Reginald Teague-Jones, was forced to change his name and disappear. For, having been sent on a secret mission to Transcaucasia, h found himself accused of one of the most notorious incidents of the war between Bolsheviks, "White Russians" and Turks--the murder of the 26 Baku Commissars. Bolshevik heroes, they included one of Lenin's closest friends. Until recently, it was assumed that Teague-Jones was long dead, but after the death in 1988 of a man named Ronald Sinclair, the truth emerged at last: Ronald Sinclair was Teague-Jones; he had lived into his hundredth year and not even his closest friends had had an inkling of who he really was. The Spy Who Disappeared is the story of his extraordinary mission and its tragic climax. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. 1st Edition. Immensely readable and enjoyable account (I have recently read it) of a journey undertaken by motorcar (deemed/supposed to be a Model Ford 'A' named Zobeida) in 1926 from Beirut, through the Lebanon, Iraq and Iran to India. Sinclair was the assumed name of a former British Intelligence Officer Reginald Teague-Jones. The journey in 'Adventures in Persia' was, as Sinclair claimed, undertaken as an investigative commercial journey. Whatever the real purpose of the journey may have been, the book reveals Sinclair/Teague-Jones to be a writer of wit and perspicacity, drawing on a wealth of experience to extricate himself from a few challenging episodes. 216 pages printed and bound in blue boards. In near-fine condition throughout and with a non-clipped dust-jacket protected in a clear cover, also in near-fine condition. 8vo.
