This book tells the story of one of N ew Zealand's best-known companies. Beginning in England during th e nineteenth century with the struggles of two young Cadbury brot hers, it then moves to another struggling young man, Richard Huds on in Dunedin. The Hudson biscuit and chocolate firm went on to p rosper, and when the Cadbury brothers wished to begin production in New Zealand, the two companies combined to form Cadbury Fry Hu dson in 1930. Through depression and war, fire and flood, energy and financial crises, population shifts and many other challenges , the company has gone from success to success. With a wealth of detail and human interest E E Barringer describes the growth of t he business and some of the many people who helped to bring it ab out. Through personal experience combined with research, he is ab le to bring to life the challenges of a business operating intern ationally as well as the human side of a company that began with strong family roots.
