Edition originale Signé
First edition, first printing, presentation copy from the photographer, inscribed on the half-title, "For Michael, Bill Claxton, Oct. 18, 2005, London". The recipient was Michael Hoppen, owner of the Hoppen Galley, Chelsea, which specializes in photography and put on a show of Claxton's work in 2004. This is the first appearance in English of the duo's coast-to-coast tour. American photographer William Claxton (1927-2008) and German music journalist Joachim Berendt (1922-2000) spent most of 1960 travelling around the United States photographing and recording jazz musicians. Jazz Life was originally published in 1961 by Burda Druck und Verlag in Offenburg. Folio. Original black cloth, blind debossed lettering to spine and front cover, white silk pagemarker, pictorial endpapers. With dust jacket. CD in rear board pocket. Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white. Jacket spine lightly sunned, corners rubbed, short closed tears to spine ends. An excellent copy in a very good jacket.
