Softcover. Etat : Gut bis sehr gut. 1. Auflage. B : 6 x 9 cm - Drug addict, thief, and writer ( The Evening Sun Turned Crimson ), Huncke figures prominently in the legend of the Beat Generation; he appears as a character in several Beat works, including Jack Kerouac's On The Road, William Burroughs's Junkie, and John Clellon Holmes's Go. Here, in an easy, conversational style, Huncke recounts his life as an addict, his prison experiences, and his friendships with Burroughs, Ginsberg, and others. His memoir includes interesting views of Times Square and the East Village and documents the changing New York City drug scene since the 1940s. Huncke is a natural storyteller. His account of his life is sincere and authentic, unmarred by apology or sentimentalism. An important literary and sociological document.

First edition, first printing Hanuman Books has issued titles from 1986 to 1993 out of the Chelsea Hotel by its creator Raymond Foye, art critic and editor at large, and Italian painter Francesco Clemente. The books though never beautifully produced and with slight flaws at times were influenced by Indian prayer books. Their small size and bright in color were well dedicated to the writings of the particular poet or artist or outsider. Though the books might be somewhat slight in production, mainly they were all gems. Often they were published as 12 books in a year over the spring and fall. They were printed on letterpress in Madras. The pages were sewn together by local fisherman as the tale goes and others. Basically the books hold to a 3 x 4 dimension. Near fine stiff wraps in tiny pictorial dust jacket. Front cover image of the poet by Allen Ginsberg. Book text is as new and never read.
