Jacket toned to white rear panel and foxed to reverse with small nicks & creases to spine tips. A Very Good copy overall in like jacket. A novel exploring the effect of war on a group of English people, written under the Author's given name rather than her better-known nom-de-plume of Ellis Peters. Scarce.

First thus edition hard back binding in publisher's original camel cloth covers, brown title and author lettering to the spine and to the upper panel. 8vo. 7½'' x 5¼''. Contains xxiii printed pages of text with 64 colour and monochrome plates to the rear. Tan age spots to the margins of the covers, foxing to the closed upper edges. Very Good condition book in Very Good condition colour illustrated dust wrapper with 10 mm tears with related crease lines to the upper front and rear gutters, rubs to the gutters and fore edges. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection, this preserves and prolongs the life of the paper, it is not adhered to the book or to the dust wrapper. Member of the P.B.F.A. Edges quite heavily foxed (though paper quality is good), endpapers less so, an ownership inscription and a bookseller's label on the front endpapers, slightly spotted, inscription on fly-leaf, o/w good in very good dustjacket with a few small professionally closed tears and a little soiling on the back panel ( Australian price, 20s, on the front flap). A copy with a jacket in much better condition than is usually found. This edition includes photographs of aircraft, as well as a portrait frontispiece of the author, which were not included in later (paperback) editions of this title.
