No dust jacket. 192 pp. with 4 black and white photographs and 3 sketch maps. The book is in good + condition. There is minor shelf-wear to the extremities of the cover and two spots to the front board. The front hinge is just beginning to crack but the binding is tight. There is a former owner's name and address to the top corner of the reverse of the frontispiece. The tissue guard to the frontispiece is creased and lightly foxed. Otherwise the pages are clean and unmarked.

"Gazette" Printing Works, Devizes, 1908, first edition; 8vo, 140 x 220mm; pp xvii, 192; three gravure images of commanding officer, a gravure of the memorial tablet in Salibury Cathedral and three sketch maps of campaigns in Southern Africa; royal blue cloth boards, spine titled gilt, crest of the Prince of Wales and a small flourish gilt together with images of two medals on the front board; covers extensively water splashed and duly splotchy in colour but the book otherwise in good, clean condition throughout. . . . . . Published in two volumes, this volumes preceded by one published in Liverpool in 1886 covering the period from the regiment's formation in 1794 through to 1884. Despite the title the gap between the end of the first period and the beginning of the second appears to have been covered in this volume. There are three appendixes including one giving a list of officers, promotions, retirements and gazettes. Scarce in this the original form.

Vol. 1: half-title, viii, 267pp. with six appendices. and Vol. II: vii, 192pp. Half-title and frontispiece The author was surprised when he went to Wiltshire and found how little was known of the earlier history of its regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry; only a few hazy reminiscences. He spent three years collecting material for the work Volume one is the history of the Yeomanry Cavalry from the time of its formation 1794 to October, 1884. Volume two which was not published until 1908 is the history from 1893 to 1908. Bound in 1/4 tan polished calf over red cloth covered boards, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, black endpapers, minor spots of rubbing. A very nice set.
