Livre
Paperback. Etat : VG. Dust jacket condition: None. First pr. Small area of light staining to gray cloth covers. From the Foreword: THE interest shown in such few radio scripts as have been published (the most notable recent example being The Rescue by my friend Mr. Edward Sackville-West) has encouraged me to publish some more of my own. I do this not only because like all radio writers I feel frustrated each time a script has been broadcast but in the hope that a selection of dissimilar pieces may throw some light on the medium. I have chosen The Dark Tower because I think it the best radio script I have written; the others are included as fairly clear-cut examples-I would certainly not say models-of different types of programme. All of them seem to me worth reading. Having in my Introduction to Christopher Columbus essayed a general exposition of radio-dramatic writing, I will not labour again those main points which I still consider valid, e.g. that 'the first virtue of a radio script is construction'. But I would like in some respects to correct myself. That the radio writer 'must move on a more or less primitive plane' is, I think now, an overstatement or at least misleadingly expressed. What the radio writer must do, if he hopes to win the freedom of the air, is to appeal on one plane-whatever he may be doing on the others-to the more primitive listener and to the more primitive elements in anyone; i.e. he must give them (what Shakespeare gave them) entertainment. 202 pages.
