Softcover. Etat : Good. Reprint. Aleister Crowley was among the first Europeans to study, practice and teach Yoga. These lectures set forth some of Crowley's conclusions after a lifelong philosophical investigation. The first series of lectures is entitled 'Yoga for Yahoos.' The elements of Yoga are introduced, examined and demystified with a view to extracting the practical essence of Yoga doctrine. Yoga is also correlated with astrology and the Qabalah. The second series is entitled 'Yoga for Yellowbellies.' Here Crowley weaves Yoga into a conceptual framework the encompasses Western philosophy, magick and mathematical physics. All of these lectures are approached with humor, wit and a minimum of jargon.

Edition originale
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. First Edition. London, The O.T.O. [Ordo Templi Orientis], BCM/ANKH, 1939. Quarto, vi, 84, [4] (publisher's advertisements) pages with a full-page illustration plus a frontispiece portrait of Crowley, and a small erratum slip and advertisement (printed on pink paper) tipped in on page 84. Brown cloth lettered and decorated in gilt on the front cover, all edges uncut; cloth rubbed at the extremities, with minimal wear to one corner and the ends of the spine; endpapers lightly tanned; tiny stain to the bottom edge of the rear free endpaper, with minimal impact on the two advertising leaves; acidic tissue-guard uniformly tanned, affecting the frontispiece and (to a lesser extent) the title page; overall an excellent copy with an ownership signature in light pencil on the front pastedown. 'In a 15 July 1939 letter to Wilfred Talbot Smith, Crowley mentions that in order to save on shipping costs he is sending 30 copies of the book in sheets to be bound by Smith as near as possible to the original edition. These unbound sheets were sent to California where they were locally bound by the Agape Lodge of the O.T.O. All aspects of this variation are the same as state (a) with the exception of (1) the actual binding, (2) the line "Printed in England" has been added to the bottom of the colophon on page 88 and (3) the errata slip has been tipped in instead of bound in' ('The Aleister Crowley Bibliography Project', online). This copy, with the tipped-in erratum slip, and 'Printed in England' at the foot of the colophon, is one of these elusive 30 copies.

First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Louis Fox, an admirable cook a cordial companion. Wishing him as one does in happier climes, 'A thousand times a night for a thousand years' Aleister Crowley". The present work is a practical guide to yoga, with instructions on its use for spiritual purposes. The first proofs for the work arrived with Crowley on 9 March 1939. Louis Fox and his wife Lilian make regular appearances in Crowley's diaries of the late 1930s, often as a dinner companions, and frequently with favourable comments on Louis's food: "Louis Fox. Oysters--Red Caviar--Smoked eel Scrambled eggs Macassar. Faisau a la Creme" (Thursday 29 December 1938, Royal Court Diary Series). A repeated theme is the quality of Fox's "marvellous" and "perfect" bortsch, noting one lunch companion's claims that their chosen restaurant's "turtle soup was very famous: equal, he said, to Fox's great Bortsch" (15 December 1938). Quarto. Original brown cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, gatherings unopened. With dust jacket. Mild rubbing to edges, a couple of pale patches to boards, foxing to contents; a very good copy in jacket, patches lost to centre of spine, front flap fold, and foot of front flap, sometime reinforced with tape, chips to other corners, nicks to edges.
