Hardback. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Mint. Reprint. UP THE LINE TO DEATH The War Poets 1914-18 Brian Gardner (Editor) Foreword By Edmund Blunden Methuen Publishing, London 1966 Reprint 188pp Hardback. This copy is in FINE condition. Bound in original grey linen covered boards with bright silver gilt titling to the spine There are two neat signatures to the f.e.p. The un clippeed dustwrapper is in MINT condition having been protected by rempovable clear archival protective film since new. Among Wilfred Owen's papers found after his death, was one which included the famous words 'Above all I am not concerned with poetry. My subject is war and the pity of war'. This anthology too is concerned more with the First World War than with poetry; it is not only a collection, but a book with a theme. Seventy two poets are represented of whom twenty one died on active service. They have been collected and arranged by a young historian, who, like so many of his generation, has been haunted by the First World War, and who has been deeply moved by the poets. Ref FFF 4.
