Octavo, blue boards (hardcover), silver letters, 256 pp. Neat former-owner bookplate; otherwise, Fine in a Near-Fine, mylar protected dust jacket with slight sunning to spine & edges. From dust jacket: The Royal Air Force came into being on April 1st, 1918, as a new independent service, ranking with the Army and the Navy, the First World War had been in progress for three and a half years and the Royal Flying Corps had played an increasingly important part. In April 1918 the issue of the war was still in the balance; the formation of the R.A.F. marked the opening of the final phase of the air war. The months from April to November were a period of intense air fighitng and heavy casualties. British aircraft production was expanding rapidly, and sound tactics were evolving for this new element of war. The Germans replied with new designs of aircraft and the formidable skill of their ace flyers; they did not cede supremacy in the air to the R.A.F. lightly. Aviation, Military History, World War I, WWI, British History, Royal Air Force. yslic.
