Inscribed by the author on the dedication-page, beneath the original printed dedication to John Hayward, declaring that 'I wish I had given this to you, Betty, the more since you read it more than anyone in the way I wanted it read, Marghanita, xi. 53'. The latter recipient was Irish author, Betty Miller. Laski's work is a 'study in fear', whose protagonist 'falls asleep on the Victorian chaise-longue and opens her eyes to a phantasmagoria of horror'.
