Etat : Fair. 1945. 282 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth. Contains colour plates. Moderate tanning, with light foxing and marking to pages. Heavy foxing to text block edges. Some rub-marking and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Light bumping to corners and heavy crushing to spine ends. Book has noticeable forward lean. Boards are slightly bowed and sunned.

Light thumb marking, foxing and tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Pen inscription to title page. Binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining and scuffing overall. Spine has light tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean. Clipped dust jacket with minor rubbing, chipping and tearing to edges. Moderate tanning and scuffing overall.

Shelving soil to page edges. Pages and plates toned but clean and unmarked. Jacket is soiled with 1 1/2" triangular chip upper spine end, ther chips at lower spine end and hinge ends. Toning along spine. Colors still very strong with titles and figure clear. Jacket completely intact in Brodart. Scarce. prev. owner;s small name stamp off upper edge ffep away from map.

Map illustrated front endpapers,  showing three maps, one of Australia and the range of the Great Barrier Reef, a part map of Queensland from Brisbane to Cape York and again the range of the Great Barrier Reef and a more detailed map of the Bunker Group off the coast of Rockhampton / Gladstone. Colour photographic frontispiece, along with the other 51 photographs in the text, have been taken by the author. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper with yellow and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A really early investigation of the denizens of the Great Barrier Reef. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. The top and bottom edges show rubbing and faint foxing; as, does either side of the back strip. Flecking along the front spine edge. Light tanning and foxing of the text block edges; with, age toning of the text block edges and end pages. The dustwrapper is not in fabulous shape:  the rear fold over panel is detached from the rest of the dustwrapper. Chipping, with large pieces missing to the dustwrapper corners and to the top left hand corner of the front panel. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges and there are numerous tears measuring from 0.25 up to 2 inches. Browning of the white coloured background and there are some horizontal creases and tears to the rear fold over edge. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
