A Roman-Catholick, 1663, 322 pp plus contents, original double ruled leather, 7 x 4.5 , 12mo. In fair condition. Ex-library St. Bernard s Seminary, Rochester, N.Y. Library Gift of Rev. Edw. Corners rubbed with slight loss and cracking joints. Spine ends are worn with loss. Numerous abrasions to surface of leather. Front fly leaf is detached. Fr. Jo. Girlington with the quote Ad quid venisti? A quote of St. Bernard. Interesting as Girlington has familial roots to 16th and 17th centuries when this book was printed. The lettering is in old hand, not 18th or 19th. Internally toned with light foxing and age stain. Some marginalia in old hand and notations in the same hand in the rear. Binding remains intact. Please see photos. Serenus Cressy was a 17th century English-Benedictine monk who converted to Catholicism after his arrival in Rome in 1646. Cressy wrote numerous liturgical works on Catholic doctrine including this work. The book was a direct and critical response to Protestant Thomas Pierce s theological views, particularly those concerning God s decrees. FORN-SHELF-0461-BB-2409-HKREV11.…
