Finely executed early 19th-century Indo-Persian miniature on reused Arabic manuscript paper. The composition combines two registers?a vivid shikar (tiger-hunting) scene above and a richly detailed mehfil (courtly music gathering) below?illustrating the duality of royal valor and refined pleasure central to late Mughal court culture. In the lower scene, a nobleman reclines against a bolster while five female musicians perform with tanpura, sarod, and dholak instruments. The upper register depicts a mounted hunter spearing a tiger in a dynamic landscape framed by trees and Deccan-style hills. Both panels exhibit meticulous brushwork, crisp contouring, and delicate shell-gold ornament on textiles and jewelry. Executed in opaque watercolor and gold, the painting shows features typical of Lucknow or Murshidabad ateliers between 1780?1820?refined modeling, Persianized feminine faces, and atmospheric blue shading. The riverside pavilion and floral terrace integrate Mughal architectural perspective with Persian color harmony. The verso bears a dense Arabic naskh-style text in black ink with red rubrication, discussing moral conduct and jurisprudence. Marginal notes in a smaller hand confirm it derives from a theological commentary, later repurposed as painting paper. Minor chipping at the top edge and faint foxing confirm authentic age.
