Tortoise shell / tortoiseshell architectural binding, cracked with loss, two original metal clasps, said (according to the inscription) to be 300 years old, originally bound on an old Dutch Bible, now on a Book of Common Prayer. With metal pins to the shell joints, and architectural imagery blind impressed on to the shell boards.
Modern book of Common Prayer now housed within the tortoiseshell covers.
Inscription to the front of the volume states:
?The tortoise shell binding is 200 years old. It was originally bound on an old Dutch Bible.?
Pagination: Book of Common Prayer ? Unpaginated; Hymns Ancient and Modern ? 588, 64pp.
Provenance: inscription ?To my dear wife July 31 1912, Basil Ciothgiall (?).
Approximately 5 ¾ inches (14.5cm) tall.
