Emily grew up in the West Midlands and studied English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. After graduating, she spent several years working in children’s publishing, helping authors bring their brilliant ideas to life, before becoming a writer herself.

She now lives in the Oxfordshire countryside near the River Thames with her husband and two wild and wonderful children. When she’s not writing, she can sometimes be found running along the river, exploring her local library, getting muddy on woodland walks or searching for inspiration in the world around her.

Emily writes for children of all ages, from picture books and non-fiction to middle-grade stories. Her books include Who Owns the Woods? (Little Tiger, 2023), Stories from the Wild (Scholastic, 2025) and Uprooted (Collins, 2025). She loves writing stories that spark curiosity, explore big feelings and help young readers see the world in new ways.

Karl West is an illustrator based in Weymouth, Dorset. His studio is five minutes from the beach. He lives with his wife and his tiny work companion, a chihuahua called Chewi. Karl has been illustrating professionally for almost 10 years and has been with his agent, Astound for 8 years. His passion is in illustrating monsters, aliens, dragons and anything where he can use his imagination.
