A running joke on the show is the roommates make Schmidt put money into a “douchebag jar”—it’s like a swear jar, but instead of putting in money when you curse, you put in money when you say something douchey.

The Douche Journals, written in the voice of the character, will feature a written log of each douchey infraction, complete with Schmidt’s excuses, explanations, and commentary in a “What I learned” or “Notes” section beneath the description of the infraction.
