Synopsis

“A book that will help you lose weight, keep it off, prevent lifestyle disease, and even reverse it. A book every health-conscious person should own and every doctor should prescribe their patients.”—Rich Roll, bestselling author of Finding Ultra and The Plantpower Way

An acclaimed surgeon specializing in weight health dispels the pro-protein myths that have been perpetuated by our doctors, our weight-loss experts, and the media, and sets the record straight.

“Our obsession and addiction to animal products has led us down the path to nutritional suicide, and this wake-up call from Dr. Davis is important to save lives.”—Joel Fuhrman, M.D., bestselling author of Eat to Live and Super Immunity

Most of us have heard the direction to eat more protein. Foods, drinks, and supplements are loaded with extra protein. We think protein is important for weight control, energy, and longevity. But too much protein is actually making us sick, fat, and tired. Now, learn the evidence-based truth about what to eat, including that:

  • Protein is not the key to weight loss; it is actually one of the biggest factors behind the obesity epidemic.
  • Animal protein is not the healthiest food we can eat; it is associated with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and cancer.
  • Carbs are not the enemy; they are a source of energy, and are staples in the diets of the longest-living people in the world.
  • Consuming too much meat makes us inflamed and is linked to immune dysfunction, fatigue, and brain fog.

Dr. Davis distills these findings into a straightforward, plant-based solution that combines what we know about our own biology, the evidence from our world’s healthiest cultures, and an insider’s knowledge of the health media and its flawed messaging. A two-week plan will get you started with a diet composed of fresh, whole fruits and vegetables, along with nuts, seeds, beans, and grains.

You’ll understand the scientific debates over the effects of animal protein and finally know how to interpret the findings of contradictory studies and confusing headlines. You’ll feel confident in knowing how to make the healthiest decisions for yourself and enjoy the extraordinary relief of being able to come to your own conclusions. Even if you’re a certified “proteinaholic,” Dr. Davis will make recovery a clear, simple process that will change your life forever.
