Synopsis
This text book provides an introductory course in digital design and computer design. VHDL is used throughout the book to generate most of the designs in the book. No prerequisite is required for this book. The book is intended for students enrolled in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science in their freshman or sophomore year. The first half of the book (Chapters 1 through 9) concentrates on digital design and the second half of the book (Chapters 10 through 19) concentrates on computer design and assembly language programming.

This text is intended for an introductory digital design course for students at the freshman level; it also is intended for an introductory computer design course with assembly language programming for students at the sophomore level. This text uses a spiral teaching approach by introducing a design problem and then, in the same chapter or a later chapter, either (1) reemphasizing the same concepts when a different design is presented, or (2) working the same problem using a different technique. This is done to increase the likelihood of retention.
