Synopsis

Soccer is by far the most popular sport on the planet. And a record number of girls and women are playing soccer worldwide.

While Coaching Youth Soccer: A Baffled Parent's Guide has been very successful, the differences between coaching boys and coaching girls are distinct enough to warrant a separate book. With this huge growth in the number of girls playing soccer, there is a need for more and more parents to get involved and volunteer as youth coaches. Some coaches may have no experience, some may have coached boys only, while others may have coached girls for several years but are unsure how to proceed as their players develop.

As in other books in the series, Coaching Girls' Soccer is written for the unprepared parent who has unwittingly signed up to coach his or her 6- to 13-year-old child's team.

Following the successful formula of the other books in the series, Coaching Girls' Soccer will provide all of the fundamental and necessary information new coaches need to get a season underway and - most importantly - the necessary information to understand the nuances of coaching girls.

À propos de l'auteur

Drayson Hounsome grew up playing soccer on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, a group of small self-governing British islands nestled in the Bay of Mont St. Michel off the French coast. He had the unique opportunity of traveling for both England and France to play soccer (aka football), learning both the English and the European styles of play. He dreamed of playing professionally but suffered a career-ending eye injury. Unable to continue playing at a high level, he turned to coaching. For the past 10 years he has served as the national director of ProExcel soccer (formerly NOGA), the largest and most respected soccer education company in the Northeast. He has coached boys' and girls' teams and has worked with college and select youth teams. He has written several coaching curricula for clubs, lectured to university physical education students, and conducted coaching clinics for novice parent coaches. Additionally, Drayson has professionally trained and coached four New York State girls' championship teams, including the three-time Girls' New York State Cup Champions, the Massapequa Fever (ages under 10 through under 14). He is currently the Head Women's Soccer Coach at the nationally ranked CW Post Campus of Long Island University.
