Planet3 Wireless set out in 2000 to change the direction that wireless LAN training was taking. In its former business as a value-added reseller (VAR), Planet3 sought general training on how wireless LANs work from a number of sources. Finding nothing other than vendor specific workshops, the engineers and professionals at Planet3 decided they could create the necessary training from scratch and the Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) program was born. Devin Akin (Bremen, GA) Chief Psychometrician & Co-founder of Planet3 Wireless, spent four years in the U.S. Army learning RF technology and another six years in the private sector working in RF laboratories such as Bell South, Earthlink, and Foundary Networks, Inc. Akin has spent the ensuing years devouring data networking knowledge and earning advanced certifications from Cisco, Novell, Microsoft, Foundry, and others.
