Synopsis
No country has a history more confused by prejudice and emotion than Ireland. By disentangling the numerous threads from St Patrick's mission onwards, the author shows how present-day Ireland evolved and makes her modern history intelligible. He pays particular attention to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries where, clearly and impartially, he relates the bitter conflict between Ireland and England.
