Synopsis
In this follow-up to "Captain Mark Phillips on Riding", the author aims to give the reader a clear idea of how to train a suitable horse to a stage where it can compete in a one-day or three-day event. Temperament, conformation and all stages of training are covered, including backing, lunging and common training problems. Captain Phillips describes methods of training horse and rider for dressage, cross-country and show jumping and concludes with advice on caring for a horse on a daily basis and before and during competition.
